Thursday's activities


Period 1

Social Studies

Objective:
Materials needed: Student laptops, internet, word processor to take notes.
Students will research the five Pillars of Islam.
Students will be broken into 5 groups and each group will present what they have learned about the five pillars.
Each group member will have to present at least one point per group.

Homework/Follow-up
Students will create a Google Document for each group. For homework, students will collaborate of their section and come up with points to present- ie; the definition of the pillar, examples, photographs etc.

Period 2

Language Arts

Objective: Students will engaged in conversation with Author Sarah Thomson.
Materials needed: LCD Projector, teacher laptop, Skype software, generated questions.

Skype activity: Author Sarah Thomson will Skype into the classroom for 30 minutes. Students will have the chance to ask questions such as (but not limited to)
- Why did you choose to write this book?
- Have you been to Korphe?


Follow-up/Homework: students will write a reflection on their visit with Thomson and post it to the class blog.


Period 3

Home Economics

Objective: Students will make final preparation for the bake sale.
Materials needed: paper, tape, and markers for price tags and signs.
Students will complete their posters to advertise their sale and hang them strategically throughout the building. Students will also be responsible for writing announcements to be read at the morning and afternoon announcements.


Period 4

Math

Objective: Students will analyse data on literacy rates in Pakistan in comparison with the other 5 countries.
Materials needed: Laptops, spreadsheet software, internet.
Task: Studenst will examine literacy rates they have researched.

Discussion questions:
How does Pakistan's literacy rate compare with other countries?
Create graph of your choice to demonstrate the differences between literacy rates.


Period 5

Art

Objective: Students will create their own collage
Materials needed: Collage materials brought in by students, teacher materials, glue, markers.
Task: Students will continue to work on their collage stories.
The stories will be displayed throughput the school when completed (for Monday)
